13. What are the major types of cellular interference?

In cellular communication systems, several types of interference can occur. Here are the major types of cellular interference:

  1. Co-Channel Interference:

Co-channel interference (CCI) occurs when multiple cells or base stations use the same frequency channel to provide service in close proximity. It arises when signals from neighboring cells using the same frequency interfere with each other, leading to signal degradation and reduced performance. CCI can result in decreased signal quality, increased error rates, and reduced capacity in the affected cells.

  2. Adjacent Channel Interference:

Adjacent channel interference (ACI) happens when cells or base stations use frequency channels that are close to each other but not identical. In this case, signals from adjacent channels can spill over and cause interference, degrading the quality and performance of the desired signal. ACI can result from imperfect filtering or channel separation and can impact communication reliability and data rates.
